Viral Videos Highlight Ticketless Travel Issue On India's Vande Bharat Express
Photos and videos of individuals travelling without tickets in reserved coaches of trains have been increasingly shared on social media. While this is common on regular trains, the incident has now occurred on India's premium train, the Vande Bharat Express. Videos of the event have surfaced online and gone viral.
In India, trains are a crucial mode of transport for long-distance travel. Many prefer trains for journeys requiring several hours, as they offer a certain level of comfort. Travellers can either book tickets in advance or get on general compartments and purchase tickets from the counter.

During peak vacation seasons, passengers without prior reservations often occupy reserved compartments due to overcrowded general compartments. This issue has been persistent across India and has now affected the Vande Bharat Express.
The Vande Bharat Express is a premium train in India, featuring fully air-conditioned coaches with automatic doors and advanced technological features. Passengers must book tickets in advance, and boarding without a reservation is not permitted.
The train operates between Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and Dehradun in Uttarakhand. Recently, the route experienced a massive rush, exceeding the train's seating capacity. This situation has left many questioning how such an occurrence is possible on a fully reserved train.
Social Media Reactions
All passengers seen in the viral video lacked proper tickets, resulting in them standing in walkways and causing inconvenience to others. Such scenes are typically observed on regular trains but have now been reported on the Vande Bharat Express as well.

It is believed that these passengers opted for this route due to insufficient seats available for their journey. The crowd was so large that even the ticket examiner could not manage the situation effectively.
Calls for Solutions
Social media users who shared the video have requested authorities to devise a solution. They suggested implementing a system similar to metro stations, where only passengers with valid tickets are allowed inside railway stations.
DriveSpark Thinks
Most of these passengers were travelling with general tickets. Changes need to be made regarding how general tickets are issued, and premium trains should limit the number of general tickets sold. This could potentially resolve a significant portion of the problem.
