Vehicle Towing In Bangalore Temporarily Suspended: New ‘No Parking’ Rules Incoming
The government in Karnataka has suspended the towing of vehicles parked in 'No Parking' zones. This is a temporary suspension for a period of 15 days to allow the government to work on new policies and norms. The Karnataka government is basically looking at simplifying the towing system.
For ages now, the system of towing away vehicles parked in 'No Parking' zones hasn't changed. The vehicles that are being towed away have become modern, computers have arrived in the Police system and fines for the offence have increased. However, the way these vehicles are handled still remains the same.
Thousands of motorists have been a victim of this outdated system wherein their vehicles are towed away and outrageously high fines/bribes are collected from them to let their vehicle go. Most of the time, there are private contractors hired to do the towing and these contractors behave like goons, sometimes forcefully towing more vehicles as their payment depends on the number of vehicles towed.
There are currently over 100 towing vehicles operating in Bangalore and most of them function in an irrational manner, often leading to harassment of motorists. Adding to it all is the fact that they handle motorists' vehicles in a rough and unruly manner, sometimes damaging them. Several complaints have been raised regarding this, and the government has now acted on it.
Karnataka state home minister Araga Jnanendra was quoted as saying, "We have made a decision to find a suitable solution to the problems that the public has raised regarding towing. The government will soon make a decision to ease traffic and citizens' towing woes. I have had a preliminary discussion with senior officials of the department and a decision will be announced soon after consulting with the Chief Minister."
This decision has come about as a result of a meeting in which the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai spoke to DG-IGP Praveen SOod, Bangalore Police Commissioner Kamal Pant, and Joint Commisioner of Police (Traffic) regarding the issue. The towing system is expected to be simplified in the next 15 days.
Thoughts On Vehicle Towing Being Suspended In Bangalore
In an age where we are more dependent on technology than ever before, towing vehicles all of a sudden seems like a centuries-old practice. Parking laws reforms are the need of the hour and we hope to get the laws that a tech-savvy city like Bangalore deserves.
