Vande Bharat Sleeper Passes Water Stability Test, Clocks 180 kmph
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw recently shared an X video of the Vande Bharat Sleeper's water stability test. The train can be seen clocking a speed of 180 km/h without spilling a drop of water, and the video has gone viral. The Vande Bharat Sleeper class trains are designed for long-distance travel with sleeper berths instead of regular chairs.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains
These semi-high-speed trains will soon be inducted into Indian Railways, just like the Vande Bharat Express trains. Indian Railways is undergoing major modernization, and the Vande Bharat Sleeper class is a great example of that.
Once introduced, these semi-high-speed electric trains are expected to replace long-distance trains such as the Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express. Railways have already stated that these trains are capable of operating at a maximum speed of 160 km/h for long journeys. The trial model has already crossed 180 km/h, proving its capability as a high-speed train.
Unlike the regular Vande Bharat Express, which has chair-car seating, the Sleeper version will feature sleeper berths. Some of the modern features include on-board Wi-Fi, charging ports, reading lights, bio-toilets, and premium interior design.

For safety, it will also be equipped with Indian Railways' exclusive KAVACH anti-collision system. Regular service of this train is expected to begin soon, with the first train likely to run between Delhi and Patna.
Traditional sleeper trains run at comparatively low speeds, averaging 50 to 70 km/h. However, the Vande Bharat Sleeper can reach speeds up to 160 km/h, making it much faster and reducing overall travel time by several hours.

Vande Bharat trains are already popular among premium passengers who prefer time efficiency, premium travel comfort, hygiene, better connectivity, premium catering services, and advanced safety features.
The Sleeper class Vande Bharat trains are also expected to feature hot water showers for First Class passengers, extra cushioning, enhanced soundproofing, and an odour-control system- features that are generally not available in regular trains or even in premium trains like the Rajdhani.
