Passengers Trapped As Vande Bharat Express Doors Fail To Open In Surat

On Monday, passengers of the Vande Bharat Express, India's fastest train, faced a nerve-wracking situation when it arrived at Surat railway station at 8:30 am. A significant technical glitch caused all the automatic doors of the train to malfunction, preventing them from opening and leaving hundreds of passengers, including elderly people, women, and children, trapped inside for almost an hour.

The issue, which caused considerable distress among those who needed to disembark or board the train at Surat, was eventually resolved, but not without causing frustration and anger towards the railway authorities for their lack of communication and assistance during the ordeal.

Chetan Panchal, a regular commuter and a businessman, expressed his dismay over the unprecedented event that disrupted his and many others' schedules. "I've been commuting between Ahmedabad and Surat for 25 years, and I've never encountered such a situation," he stated, highlighting the tension and confusion among the passengers, especially the vulnerable groups.

Attempts by the Surat railway station team to manually open the doors failed, and the lack of a clear evacuation plan added to the passengers' anxiety. Dharmesh Luhar and Dinesh Ghate, both affected by the delay, criticized the railway staff's handling of the situation.

Luhar pointed out the absence of communication from the railway authorities, while Ghate, a promoter of Swar Alaap, lamented the rescheduling of his planned meetings due to the unexpected delay. The incident not only impacted those on the Vande Bharat Express but also caused delays for other Mumbai-bound trains from Ahmedabad.

Sumit Thakur, the chief public relations officer for Western Railway, commented on the incident, suggesting it stemmed from a technical issue. "It looks like the incident took place due to some technical reason. We will share the exact cause as soon as we get the details," he mentioned, without providing further commentary.

The glitch and the subsequent handling by the railway authorities have raised concerns about the preparedness for such emergencies and the importance of effective communication and assistance from the staff in ensuring passenger safety and convenience.
