V12 Laraki Mercedes Engine Replica By Eric Van Hove From Wood & Bone
Replica of cars and car parts are quite common. Artists frequently indulge themselves by recreating iconic motor vehicles from some of the more interesting materials. Cars made from edible materials, wooden cars, paper cars are some of the examples. The one we are going to talk about here stumps all those because this replica is made from not one, but 53 different materials.
The work is the idea of Belgian based artist Eric van Hove. The artwork, named V12 Larki, is the replica of a Mercedes-Benz V12 engine. The work itself is the combined effort of 35 master craftsmen from various regions of Morocco. More about the V12 Laraki in the gallery below.

To create this intricately detailed replica a V12 engine was deconstructed. The engine is made from 200 components, each of which was duplicated by the artists and finally assembled.

Some of the materials employed in the construction of V12 Larki includes different variety of wood, bones, leather, stones and even ammonite fossils of the Paleozoic from Erfoud.

The artist has received monetary assistance from Cda-Projects Grant for the creation of this unique engine.

"Pondering the economic and social dynamic between the European & African industry, the V12 Laraki is a project which will take place at the Dar Al-Ma'mun artist residency in Marrakesh."

Eric van Hove's V12 Laraki will be on display at the Marrakech Biennale, a contemporary art festival in Morocco that starts on February 26th 2014. For more details, check out the artists's wesite www.transcri.be
