A Large Number Of U.K Drivers Do Not Know How To Open A Bonnet

By Super

Are you adept at performing basic maintenance and repair on you your own car? If yes, give yourself a pat in the back because it turns out this might be not as common a skill as one might think.

According to a study conducted by tyre manufacturer Kumho in the United Kingdom, one in five car owners do not even know how to access the engine bay by opening the bonnet! And that's just the start of it.

The study has also revealed that half of all car drivers are likely to be left in a precarious state in case of a flat tyre because they do not know how to replace the tyre.

Over 7,000 vehicle breakdowns are said to occur in Britain each day, with that number only set to increase.

While a large number of people are increasingly depending on roadside assistance services, one in six drivers, aged over 30, still rely on their parents to pull them out of the temporary crisis in case of a breakdown.

The study has also brought to light that a third of all car owners in the U.K reply on their annual vehicle test to know if anything is wrong with their vehicle. Which means, they are otherwise oblivious to any problems with their vehicles throughout the year unless it becomes very evident.

"It's a concern that such a large proportion of British road users don't know basic car maintenance, especially something as crucial as accessing the engine bay! A fundamental knowledge of how your car operates ensures that drivers recognize potential warning signs, improving safety for all road users. Perhaps British drivers need to go back to basics," said Dan Woodward, brand manager at Kumho Tyre UK.
