Uber Taxi App Sneaks Into India
Uber? Who is Uber? I just need a taxi. Relax - I'll explain. Uber is a smartphone App that helps you get a taxi without a sweat or scream. Uber, a San Fransisco based company has developed an App that allows you to book taxis with moderate prices by just a click, leaving you with nothing but time.
A pilot run has begun in Bangalore and is available in all smartphones with an Android / iOS model. Uber, running a top down approach is optimistic about it's entry so far, planning to dominate the Indian Market with this App strategy. For now, only high end cars are available for a booking which includes - the Mercedes Benz E-Class, the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla Altis.

How does Uber work?
- The Uber smartphone app needs to be downloaded onto an iOS/Android phone.
- The smartphone user needs to register with Uber by filling out the mandatory details and also has to enter her/his credit card details and CVV number.
- After registration, the user may use the app to locate the nearest available taxi through the Uber app.
- Through this app, the user can hail the nearest taxi to take her/him to the required destination.
- The app will then allow the user to track the taxi, as it makes its way to her/his pick up point.
- Uber handles the complete billing process.
- In a nutshell, Uber aims to connect passengers with taxi drivers, making the entire process of taxi-booking/hailing seamless.
Uber however lacks flexibilty when it comes to other cabs and their applications. Meru, Mega and Ola cabs flexes with telephonic booking, online bookings and even mobile bookings through smartphone apps. Uber flexing with an App and online portal is not enough for Indians who are very choosy. Uber App runs only after your credit card details are filled in. Uber has to understand that the Credit Card Concept is quite far away in a tradition of "No Borrowing Money" in India.
Pricing will gain attention from other users, a base fare of 150 Rupees and a minimum fare of 250 Rupees is a WOW factor - keeping in mind "high end cars". Uber may be an underdog in this App contest (in India) but it's got a big muscle to flex - Google! Yes, Google has invested $258 million in Uber's expansion plan in India. A deal like this leaves them at a net worth of $3.5 billion. It's going to be interesting to see how Uber strategises further down the lane for low end prices - in a society that picks the cheapest first.
