A traffic cop in Kanyakumari hit a biker with his lathi in a case of police brutality that caused chaos in India's southernmost city.
The incident occurred when the traffic police were flagging down riders in Kallupalam, Kanyakumari for riding without a helmet. One of the motorcyclists that was flagged down, unfortunately, decided to make a run for it. The response from one of the cops was brutal.

One of the policemen strode to the centre of the road and swung out at the biker with his lathi. While the rider escaped the cop's big stick, the pillion rider was not so lucky. The swinging lathi hit the pillion rider in the head opening up a big gash in his forehead.
The rider stopped the bike following the policeman's brutal attack and soon a crowd gathered joining the rider and the injured man in berating the cops. The angered mob soon surrounded the policemen on duty as chaos ensued with the crowd abusing the police and even hitting out at the lathi swinging cop.

DriveSpark Thinks!
The incident in Kanyakumari highlights what is wrong with people on our country's roads today. Road safety is ignored (case in point: riding without a helmet) and the response from the police can be brutal at times and in this incident both the riders and the cop who took a swing at them are at fault.
Riding without a helmet and trying to escape from the police are punishable offences, but the extremely violent response from the cops was also uncalled for.
