Electric cars are the future of automobiles. The world has only 53 years worth of fuel left. Car manufacturers are looking for alternative means of powering vehicles and electric powered mobility is on the rise.
Many think Electric Vehicles (EV) are slow and expensive to run and maintain. Thats not true. Electric vehicles can be fast since power delivery is instantaneous. They are really cheap to run everyday and the best part- there is no pollution, whether it's sound or air pollution.

10. Tesla Roadster Sport:
Introduced in 2008, the Tesla Roadster Sport was the first highway-capable all-electric vehicle in serial production for sale in the US in recent times. The Roadster was the first car to use lithium-ion battery to power the car.
The car could run 200 miles (320 km) on a full charge and also set a record of running 501 km (311 mi) for a production electric car on a single charge. The car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds.
9. Detroit Electric SP:01:
Detroit Electric, an American based (EV) company that went defunct in 1939, have designed the two-seater electric sports car, the SP:01. The car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. The company also claims 180 miles (288 km) range on a single charge.
8. Renovo Coupe:
All set to go on sale in 2015, the Renovo Coupe can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. Another plus point of this car is that it takes just 30 minutes to charge up the car completely! The old school designed car produces more than 500 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque.
7. Tesla Model S P85D:
At number seven is the Tesla Model S P85D. The car produces 691 horsepower thanks to its dual electric motors, and do a top speed of 155 miles per hour. This car can reach 60 mph from a stand still in 3.2 seconds.
6. Drayson Racing B12/69
At number six is a car that has been given an electric motor after stripping off its 5.5-litre, bio-fueled engine. The car produces 850 horsepower and reach 60 mph in 3 seconds flat. The car can reach 100 mph in 5.1 seconds and do a top speed of 320 km/h.
5. Spark-Renault SRT_01E
At number five is the new generation of cars used for the Formula E races, the Spark-Renault SRT_01E. These cars can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3 seconds. This car is very much the future of motorsports, but without the beautiful exhaust notes of the internal combustion engine.
4. Wrightspeed X1:
The Wrightspeed X1 is the result of tearing open an Ariel Atom and rebuilding it with an electric motor, so potent that it can accelerate to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The car, although will never be put to production is an example to show that electric motors can produce extreme performance.

3. Rimac Concept One:
This electric powered two seater sports car from Rimac Automobili produces 1,088 horsepower, 1,600 Nm of torque, can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and has a restricted top speed of 305 km/h. Eight cars have been manufactured and sold. The car costs just under a million dollars and there is one word to describe it- Magnificent!
2. PlasmaBoy Racing White Zombie
At the number two spot in our countdown of the fastest electric cars in the world, comes the one of its kind 1972 Datsun called the White Zombie. This car uses prototype batteries from navy helicopters which cost USD 1,00,000 or more! This helps the car accelerate to 60 mph in just 1.8 seconds! That's fast.
1. The Grimsel:
At number one is the Grimsel. This car currently holds the record for the fastest accelerating car in the world. Built by students from Switzerland, this 200 horsepower car can accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill in a blistering 1.7 seconds and 30 metres is all it needs.
