The 5 Million Dollar Underground Garage

Tom Gonzales is a multi millionaire and the founder and former owner of the e-commerce firm Commerce One. Former, because he sold his company and instead decided to indulge in his hobby, that of collecting exotic cars and bikes.

Tom Gonzales resides near Lake Tahoe, Nevada in the United States in a vast private estate. The estate consists of four separate houses, but that is not the cool part. The most interesting section of the estate is his private vehicle collection, which is worth an estimated $5 million.

Gonzales calls his garage a "toy box" and says he maintains his collection because girls like it. He equates his vehicle collection hobby to an art form.

The $5 Million Garage

At the center of Tom Gonzales estate is a huge garage that holds more than 100 brand new motorcycles. These collector edition bikes are not registered and have never been ridden.

But there is something astonishing hidden in the estate. Hidden from plain sight is a ramp that is generally used as an aircraft elevator in aircraft carriers

What you see here is another garage that houses his car collection. Unlike the bike garage, however, his cars are parked in an underground chamber.

The $5 Million Garage

The underground garage has an area of 6,000 square feet and is one of the largest in the United States.

The aircraft elevator mentioned earlier comes into picture now. The job of bringing up the cars and even a 60ft bus up to ground level is handled by the massive elevator.

The $5 Million Garage

The 12 feet wide elevator is brought up by 6 hydraulic ramps, which require 800 gallons of hydraulic fuel to operate.

The elevator is capable of lifting 2,50,000 pounds and is entirely computer controlled

The whole thing is designed by Gonzales himself, who says the elevator can withstand any and every natural disaster.

Operating the elevator each time costs $25 in electricity bill. The elevator even has a fake boulder and pine tree on top which disguise it when in ground level.
