JCB Driver Demolishes Toll Booths In Uttar Pradesh: Reigniting Toll Charge Debates
Toll plaza charges are a common practice in India and many other countries. The system of collecting toll tax has been in place since the British era. However, debates about toll charges continue in India, with protests occurring in various parts of the country.
On June 10, an incident at the Sahaspur toll plaza in Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh, highlighted these tensions. A JCB driver demolished two toll booths after being asked to pay the toll tax. The video of the incident went viral on the internet.
The incident began when the driver was asked to pay toll charges by the staff at the plaza. The driver refused, leading to a heated argument and then a scuffle. In a fit of rage, the driver started his JCB and rammed into two toll collection booths, completely damaging them.
This scene was captured by onlookers on their mobile phones and later uploaded online. The police were informed and arrived at the scene. Based on videos and photographs collected from the spot, they arrested the accused JCB driver.

The Sahaspur toll plaza is situated on National Highway 9, which connects Delhi with Lucknow. Despite the damage caused to the property, no injuries were reported. It is fortunate that no one was standing near the JCB during the incident, as it could have led to injuries.
JCB operations can be brutal, and even skilled drivers sometimes falter. This increases the risk of damaging surrounding areas and potentially injuring people. In this case, it was fortunate that no one was hurt.

Potential Hazards
Such actions can have severe consequences for the person inside the JCB as well. Toll collection booths have electricity connections, and if a JCB's arm hits a switchbox and damages wires inside, there is a risk of electric current passing into the JCB. This could prove fatal for the driver.
If you ever witness such incidents at toll plazas, it is advisable to move your vehicle to a safe distance to avoid potential harm.

DriveSpark Thinks
Incidents like these are not uncommon at toll plazas in India. Drivers should always be prepared for such situations while entering a toll plaza. People who resort to such actions often end up damaging other vehicles while trying to flee from the spot.
If your vehicle is stuck between others during such an incident, try to move away from the spot as soon as possible to ensure your safety.
