Toll Fees To Be Hiked Across India From April – Here’s How It Can Affect Everyone
Get ready to pay more toll fees starting from tomorrow as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will be implementing toll fee hike of up to 7 per cent across the country.
However, this is not the first time government has increased the toll fee. In fact, there is a rule for toll fee hikes that comes right under the Highway Fees Rule, 2008 (Determination of Rates and Collection).
Back in 2022, NHAI hiked the toll fee on highways and expressways up to 15 per cent on all vehicles. Also, the average toll tax being collected at the expressways currently stands at an average of Rs 2.19 per kilometre.
According to a recent data, more than Rs 33,000 crore was collected as toll fees across the country from national highways in FY2022. In addition to that, toll prices have increased up to 32 per cent compared to what it was back in 2018.
Diving into details, the toll prices in the Mumbai-Pune expressway will be hiked by 18 per cent. In contrast, toll prices at Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway will be hiked by just 5 to 7 per cent, and toll rates to range between Rs 35 to Rs 105.
It is also worth mentioning that the above-mentioned price hikes on toll fees do not apply to heavy vehicles as the toll fee hike for heavy vehicles could be slightly higher compared to passenger cars.
That being said, the upcoming toll fee hike will significantly affect the purchasing capacity of the common man as the prices for essential commodities will also be increased following the increase in transport costs due to the toll fee hike.

While toll fee hikes cannot be avoided, the government could be a little more cautious in implementing such fee hikes as it has the potential to create a very strong Domino effect on the economy of the country.
