Parking

If your car is parked on the underground level, try to park your car on higher ground as it may save your car from flood water by significantly reducing the chances of your car getting flooded.

You can even use sandbags to construct a barrier that will stop flood water from getting inside your apartment or residential premises. However, we are not sure for how long these sandbags could hold the flood water.

Disconnect Batteries

During floods, make sure you have disconnected the battery of your car as this will prevent any chances of short circuit or permanent electrical damage to your car. If you are using an EV, things are easier as the powertrain of most EVs come with IP-rated water protection.

Keep Windows & Doors Shut

The most basic thing you can do to your vehicle during a flood is to keep the windows and doors of your car shut properly. This will greatly reduce the chance of water damage on the interior. Also, if your car features a sunroof, make sure you close the sunroof as well.

The biggest mistake most people do after a flood is to check their car by starting it. We highly recommend towing the car to the nearest mechanic before cranking the engine to avoid further damage to the vehicle.

Avoid driving through flooded roads in your car as the chances of your car getting flooded are very high. Also, hidden potholes and open drainage hidden under the flood water can leave you completely stranded.
