Tiger Fatally Injured By Hyundai Creta SUV: No Heirs For Responsibility

A video has surfaced online, showing a car hitting a tiger on the Bhandara-Gondia highway in Maharashtra. The incident took place near the Navegaon Nagzira sanctuary. The adult male tiger was struck by a Hyundai Creta SUV while the animal was crossing the road.

Immediate Response To Tiger Injury

Post the incident, rescue teams were quickly mobilised to transport the injured tiger to Nagpur for urgent medical attention. However, the tiger succumbed to its injuries on the way to the hospital.

The incident occurred on NH 753, a passage known for its narrow road width through dense forest areas. Furthermore, cars are advised not to travel faster than 40km/h.

The video has sparked online debate, raising questions about driving safety in ecological zones and wildlife conservation efforts. One user commented, "Why do people drive fast in wildlife areas or around forests?" Another mentioned, "Reckless driving in an animal reserve is unacceptable."

Previous Incidents and Official Statements

This is not an isolated event. A sub-adult tiger was previously hit by a car in the same region. Pramod Panchbhai, Deputy Conservator Of Forest (DCF), Gondia division, stated that the tiger was hit on the Kohmara-Gondia road. The injured animal was rescued but died on the way to the wildlife rescue centre in Nagpur.

The Blame Game

While netizens voiced their anger against the Hyundai Creta driver for "Speeding", there is no factual evidence whether the car was speeding when the accident occurred. On top of that, many reputed publications started sewing the word "Speeding" with the incident, artificially creating an unfair atmosphere around the Creta Driver.

That being said, a car with passengers travelling at 40km/h will surely have enough momentum to fatally injure a large animal such as a Tiger. As such, it is responsibility of the government to ensure a safe passage for the animals and travellers.

DriveSpark Thinks

While many blame the Hyundai Creta driver for the accident, a deeper look reveals that the government and government officials are equally responsible for this accident. That being said, let this incident be an eye-opener for travellers and government officials.
