This Harley Davidson Motorcycle Breaks Auction Record – More Expensive Than A Rolls-Royce Ghost
A 1908 Harley Davidson Strap Tank motorcycle was recently auctioned for a record-breaking sum of $9,35,000, which is approximately Rs 7.73 crore.
Diving into details, the auctioned motorcycle was one of 450 motorcycles manufactured by Harley Davison in 1908. Though 450 units may seem not so rare, only 10 to 12 examples of these motorcycles survive today.
Furthermore, it is also worth mentioning that this auctioned Harley Davidson Strap Tank motorcycle bears Engine number "2241", and carburettor number "1049". Also, the motorcycle uses a fuel and an oil tank that is strapped to the frame of the motorcycle with nickel straps, and hence the name "Strap Tank".
Also, the auctioned Harley Davidson Strap Tank motorcycle is a completely genuine motorcycle with all its original parts. It is also worth mentioning that this particular auctioned motorcycle was built at the original one-storey Harley Davidson factory. Moreover, this motorcycle was restored by Mr Paul Freehill.
Earlier, a 1907 Harley Davidson Strap Tank motorcycle was sold at an auction for $7,15,000 (Rs 5.91 Crore) in the year 2015. In comparison, the recently auctioned 1908 Harley Davidson Strap Tank motorcycle managed to fetch a better price due to its above-mentioned originality. In fact, parts including the engine belt-pulley, muffler sleeve, seat cover, wheels, fuel and oil tank were declared authentic.
Speaking about the auction, this record-breaking 1908 Harley Davidson Strap Tank motorcycle was sold by Mecum Auction in Las Vegas, USA. Furthermore, the demand for the Harley Davidson Strap Tank motorcycle is pretty high among private collectors as it is one of the earliest models of the historic American company.
