The Project Mondo G Is A Wierd, Otherworldly, Puffer Jacket-Inspired G-Wagen
German luxury carmaker Mercedes teamed up with Italian luxury fashion house Moncler to reveal the Project Mondo G concept at the London Fashion Week.
German luxury carmaker Mercedes teamed up with Italian luxury fashion house Moncler to reveal the Project Mondo G concept at the latter's "The Art of Genius" show at the London Fashion Week yesterday.
The Project Mondo G from Mercedes sees the German firm once again collaborate with high-fashion brands and the result of the latest entanglement between the luxury carmaker and the fashion world is weird, to say the least.

Mercedes claims that the Project Mondo G concept merges the classic G-Class characteristics with those of Moncler's iconic puffer jacket. The result is what Mercedes refers to as an 'art piece' that was revealed to the world yesterday.
Thankfully, for the rest of us with eyes, this 'art project' is a one-off aberration in the boxy G-Wagen's life. The Project Mondo G concept is downright weird as it takes the whole puffer jacket styling cues to the extreme. The concept has a zipper for crying out loud.

However, Mercedes has made this fusion of opposites a quite practical one. The paint scheme features a rough patina conveying the message that while this may be a design project it is meant to be used just like the jacket it is inspired by.
Speaking about the jacket, the quilted pattern of the item can be seen on the roof of the Project Mondo G and the tyres fitted to the massive monster-truck style rims the one-off art piece runs on.

And while the fashion-conscious among us petrolheads may be able to appreciate Project Mondo G in all its glory, there are still a few quirks that may interest the rest of us in this art piece. The reason is that Project Mondo G is slightly shorter than the regular G-Class at 4.6 metres in length (the G-Wagen is 4.7 to 4.8 metres long).
The Mondo G is almost twice as wide as the G-Class at 3.4 metres thanks to the puffer jacket-inspired wheels. The Mondo G stands 2.8 metres tall (almost 900mm more than the regular G-Class) and weighs in at 2.5 tonnes.

So is the Mondo G our first glimpse at the rumoured smaller G-Wagen? Well, the answer to that is not known as the rumoured baby G-Wagen is still said to be at least three years from production.
Thoughts About The Mercedes Project Mondo G
The Mercedes Project Mondo G is an extreme version of the beloved G-Class inspired by Moncler's iconic puffer jacket. And while it may be a high fashion statement, it looks plain weird to us.
