A Tata Sumo Gets Into An Accident In Ghaziabad — Seven Killed Due To A Small Error
A Tata Sumo has been involved in a shocking accident in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The accident killed seven out of the 12 occupants of the vehicle. The old Tata SUV apparently fell down a gorge (a narrow valley between cliffs or hills, usually with a water channel), leaving the four survivors critically injured. The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, 20th April 2018.
According to NDTV, the Tata Sumo was going to a family wedding party. The 55-year old senior of the family, Om Prakash Rastogi, was looking forward to attending his son's wedding.
As per reports, a child, who was sitting at the front of the SUV, accidentally released the handbrake. The survivors of the freak accident told that the driver had parked the Tata Sumo beside and gorge and got out. Meanwhile, the unattended child disengaged the handbrake.
Before anyone could do anything, the Tata Sumo rolled down the gorge, in Vijay Nagar, near NH-24. Four women and a child are among the seven dead.
An eyewitness, Satish Kumar shared, "They were coming from Bareilly at around 8:30 p.m. The baraat (wedding ceremony) was to come to my place. Chaos arose when the SUV fell into the gorge. When I rushed outside of my house, I saw the car already drowned in the water. Just when I saw women screaming for help, I jumped into the water to help them. But most of them were already in a serious condition. The police came at around 10:30 p.m."
A police officer told,"It was the wedding of Om Prakash's son, a resident of Rampur. The wedding was in Khoda and the baraat had already left. Some women and children took the Sumo to attend the wedding. The vehicle fell in the gorge and people present there tried to save those who needed help. All of them were taken to a nearby hospital."
Other means of help arrived soon and the Tata Sumo was pulled out of the water, using a crane.
The driver of the Tata Sumo has gone missing since the incident and police have already filed a case against him. Although the driver carelessly parked the Sumo by the side of the gorge, the child who fiddled with the handbrake is the one who was at more fault.
It is always advised not to leave children unattended in a vehicle. Although they might not be doing anything on purpose, one slight error is enough to cause an accident such as this.
The handbrake is a vital component in an automobile. We all know that it helps to keep a vehicle in its place, especially on a descent or ascent. However, little do we realise that it can be easily disengaged.
Thoughts On The Tata Sumo Accident In Ghaziabad
The Ghaziabad Tata Sumo accident was truly a sad event. The event is even more depressing since it took place around a wedding ceremony. Although bystanders rushed to help those who were involved, it was already too late. This is just one of many accidents that have happened in India over the years, due to small errors.
