High mobility vehicles are in demand by the Indian Army, specially after a Tatra scandal news broke in 2012. Tata Motors had won a competition earlier that involved Tatra-BEML. The 619 new trucks will add to the earlier ordered 1,239 vehicles bought by the Army for Rs. 940 crore.

The Tata 6X6 high mobility trucks are used for a variety of purposes like carrying people, material, rockets, and missile systems. Also, these trucks will be the platform for future Multi Barrel Rocket Launchers, Short Range Surface to Air Missiles, Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missiles, and Low Level Quick Reaction Missiles.
