This Southern State Manufactures 40% Of All EVs In India – Check Out All Details Here
In recent years, the demand for electric vehicles has skyrocketed in India, especially in tier 1 and tier 2 cities in the country. To meet this increased demand, electric vehicle manufacturers have rampantly expanded their production.
In fact, some of the bigger EV players have shifted their entire EV manufacturing facilities to states with better government backing. That being said, according to TNIE, one state in India produces 40 per cent of all the electric vehicles sold in the country.

As per the findings, 10.44 lakh electric vehicles were registered in India (January to September). Out of these 10.44 lakh electric vehicles, 4.1 lakh electric vehicles were manufactured in Tamilnadu. This is a commendable achievement by the state government.
By attracting so many EV makers, Tamilnadu is en route to becoming a global EV hub. Out of these 4.1 lakh electric vehicles manufactured in the state, Ola Electric's contribution stands tall with 1.75 lakh units.
Just behind Ola Electric stands TVS Motor with 1.12 lakh units of electric vehicles. Furthermore, Ather Energy also contributed strongly by managing to push out 77,764 units of its electric vehicles.
Speaking on the tremendous achievement of the state, Tamilnadu Industries Minister TRB Raja told TNIE that the achievement was the result of Tamilnadu's inherent strength as an automobile manufacturing hub and targeted efforts taken in the last couple of years.

Additionally, according to the state industries department, Rs 50,000 crore is expected to be invested in the state for EV manufacturing by the year 2025. This will result in approximately 1.5 lakh jobs in Tamilnadu.
That being said, Tamilnadu has already identified 6 cities in the state for developing into EV hubs. These cities include Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Trichy, Madurai, and Tirunelveli. Out of these cities, Chennai and Coimbatore have a high-quality trained workforce.
According to the CBRE report released, the total cumulative investment in EVs during the 2020-H1 2023 stood at $28.8 billion. Moreover, Maharashtra and Tamilnadu emerged as leaders in EV investments, each capturing a 15% share.
