The SOD Peak 8x6 Is An Insane Go-Anywhere Luxury RV Based On A Truck

German company Stone Offroad Design (SOD) turns big trucks into some of the most opulent recreational vehicles (RV) around. The Munich-based form's latest creation takes that formula to a whole new level.

The RV in question is called the Peak 8x6 and is based on the Mercedes Arocs - a heavy construction truck with up to four axles. The SOD Peak 8x6 is based on the Mercedes Arocs 3358, a 27-ton, 3-axle version of the truck that starts at 1.7 million euros (Rs 15.22 crores).

SOD claims that the Peak 8x6's body was "developed by off-road specialists and experienced vehicle builders and, with a length of over six metres, offers plenty of space".

Powering this behemoth is the Mercedes OM 473 diesel engine that displaces 15.6 litres. The engine produces 570bhp and 2,700Nm of peak torque and is compliant with Euro 6e emissions, and is mated to Merc's Powershift 3 automatic gearbox.

Now that you know about the engine that powers the Peak 8x8, let's talk about the RV itself. The exterior is covered in aluminium duo or quintet sheet metal which has been powder coated and folded down on the front sides and rear.

The windows are 1,000mm x 500mm and feature both blackout and insect screens. Also seen is a large three-piece tempered glass roof that also sports insect and blackout screens.

There are also two storage areas that open upwards and feature profile cylinder locks. The storage areas measure 1,000mmx900mm. The entrance door also features an insect screen, and the luxury RV sports a central locking system with coded locks alternatively for the body and storage compartment flaps.

The walls of the RV feature 2mm GRP insulation foam and depending on the specification, can be between 60-80mm thick. Also seen is a hydraulic support system with four hydraulic cylinders and automatic levelling.

The access stairs extend outwards from the sides onto a hydraulically operated extendable and retractable bannister with a wooden handrail that is controlled by remote control.

The Peak 8x6 also sports LED lights on the outside, including a roof-mounted light bar. Also seen are dimmable ambient lights and a winch. The body is painted graphite grey metallic, while the chassis and wheels sport a jet-black paint scheme.

Step inside this behemoth of an RV and you'll find enough space for a young family of four to live in opulent luxury. The cab features leather upholstery and the driver's seat features a massage function to make the long journies comfortable.

The sleeping quarters consist of a double bed and two bunk beds; the dining/kitchenette area has enough space for all the food, cabinetry and vessels, while the bathroom looks like it is lined with marble.

To keep everything running, the SOD Peak 8x6 sports a 1.6kW solar electric system along with a 150 amp generator. There is a 1,000-litre fresh water tank along with a 16-litre hot water boiler. Also seen are a separate conditioning system for the cabin and an underfloor heating setup.
