Shankar Mahadevan Acquires MG M9 Electric MPV Worth Over ₹ 80 Lakh
Music maestro Shankar Mahadevan has taken delivery of the MG M9 electric MPV, the flagship offering from MG in India. The veteran singer, one-third of the musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, recently took delivery of the MG M9 luxury MPV.
Earlier this year, film star Hema Malini became the first high-profile personality in India to purchase the MG M9. That acquisition set a precedent, and Mahadevan's purchase of the MG M9 is sure to increase the visibility of the luxury electric MPV.
The MG M9, priced at ₹ 80.33 lakh(on road), is MG's competitor in the large premium MPV space. The MG M9 features a single fully-loaded trim featuring an array of luxury and tech-centric amenities targeted at buyers who want both space and electric power.
Key features of the MG M9 include a 12.3-inch digital infotainment display, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 13-speaker JBL sound system. Level 2 ADAS, PM 2.5 cabin filtration, wireless phone charging and intelligent armrest controls are also part of the package.
Interior appointments go further with cognac-brown leather-wrapped seats, a yacht-style panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting and "presidential" seats with 16-way adjustment, 8-mode massage and heating/ventilation for all rows.
On the practical side, the MPV offers a 55-litre frunk and a massive 1,720-litre boot with the third row folded. MG claims the M9 is the longest and widest vehicle in its segment and comes with seven airbags, a 360-degree camera and dual five-star Euro NCAP/ANCAP safety ratings.
Under the skin, the MG M9 is powered by a 90 kWh NMC battery pack paired with an electric motor that delivers 245 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque to the front wheels. The MG M9's MIDC-claimed range is 548 km on a single charge, and the battery supports DC fast charging from 30 % to 80 % in about 30 minutes.
Despite its feature-rich specification, the MG M9 has so far drawn limited uptake from Indian celebrities and high-net-worth buyers, especially when compared with more familiar German luxury MPVs. Mahadevan's purchase may help strengthen its appeal in that segment.
