Caught on Camera: Delhi Scooter Theft Shocks Netizens!

It isn't a secret that our country is riddled with theft occurrences, from common burglary to vehicle theft, as seen in the numerous reports scattered throughout newspapers and social media platforms. Despite heightened security on roads and the deployment of surveillance cameras by authorities, these incidents persist on a day-to-day basis.

Countless CCTV footage showcasing car or motorbike thefts committed on roadsides, outside the owners’ homes, can be found online. While some culprits are apprehended, others remain at large.

Today, we highlight a unique case of theft that involves a scooter rider and a group of thieves operating on a TVS Apache motorbike. This incident was recorded on the dash camera of a Tata Harrier, and the footage was shared by Prateek Singh on his YouTube channel, courtesy of a subscriber. The theft took place in the bustling city of Delhi.

In the video, a TVS Apache motorbike carrying three individuals is spotted on the left side of the screen. None of them seem to be donning helmets. Simultaneously, a scooter rider is seen on the right side. Unfortunately, due to the poor lighting conditions, the video quality is not optimal, but the road appears to be moderately crowded.

The Apache rider begins to shift lanes, and one of his pillion riders can be seen scanning the traffic behind them. Just as the Harrier is about to pass them, the bike changes lanes to align with the scooter rider's path. All the vehicles on the road were moving at a slow pace, and the scooter rider, engrossed in his phone, did not notice the bike beside him.

Unaware of the impending danger, the scooter rider continued to use his phone while riding—the Apache rider took advantage of this lapse in attention, riding too close to the scooter. In a swift motion, the pillion snatched the phone from the scooter rider, who lost his balance and fell onto the road. The vehicles trailing behind, thankfully, adhered to the speed limit and managed to halt in time to prevent further mishaps.

The scooter rider, visibly shocked and bewildered, got up, possibly coming to terms with what had just transpired. The video clearly captured the whole incident, leaving little room for doubt that it was an orchestrated act by the thieves. They had likely been observing the scooter rider, seizing the opportunity to act when he became distracted by his phone.

The scooter rider, though the victim here, was also at fault. The dangers of using a mobile phone while riding a two-wheeler are widely known, and his distraction could have led to a more severe accident.

Fortunately, he escaped without injury and was not hit by any other vehicle. This incident serves as a harsh reminder to never use mobile phones while riding and to always keep your vehicle doors locked while on the road.
