IAF's S 400 Vs Pakistan's Shaheen-3: Check Out All Key Details Here

Last night, the Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed its S 400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence missile systems against Pakistani targets advancing towards India. The operation successfully neutralised these threats. Reports indicate that Pakistan's air defence units in Sialkot and Lahore sustained significant damage amid drone attacks across ten cities on May 8. This incident followed India's operation 'Sindoor', targeting terror camps in Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in 26 casualties.

On the night of May 7-8, Pakistan attempted to target several military sites in northern and western India using drones and missiles. The targeted areas included Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj. The IAF's swift response with the S-400 system thwarted these attempts.

S-400 Defence System

The S-400 missile system is a crucial component of India's air defence capabilities. It can intercept fighter jets, ballistic missiles, and drones from up to 600 km away. This system is particularly significant given its ability to counter threats from China and Pakistan. Three regiments are currently operational with two more expected by August 2026.

India acquired the S-400 technology through an agreement with Russia during President Putin's visit in October 2018. With a range of 40 to 400 km, it is considered one of the most powerful defence systems globally. Its deployment aims to enhance India's security against aerial threats.

Shaheen-III Missile

The Shaheen-III missile is a land-based medium-range ballistic missile developed by Pakistan. First test-fired on March 9, 2015, it has a range of 2,750 km. This capability allows it to reach all parts of India. Development began secretly in response to India's Agni-III missile program.

The Shaheen-III was designed to target the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to prevent India from using them as strategic bases for second-strike capabilities. According to its program manager, this missile enhances Pakistan's strategic reach significantly.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that India's strikes were "proportionate" responses aimed at bringing those responsible for the Pahalgam attack to justice. He noted that Pakistan had not taken any visible steps against terrorist infrastructure within its territories.

DriveSpark Thinks

The recent events highlight the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan over security concerns and territorial disputes. Both nations continue to develop advanced defence systems as part of their military strategies.
