Bespoke Rolls-Royce Manchester Ghost Honors The City That Changed Automotive Luxury
In the northern industrial English city of Manchester, two gentlemen met for the very first time on the 4th of May, 1904 at the Midland Hotel and the automotive world as we knew it changed for the better.
The two English gents were Charles Rolls and Henry Royce and the idea that germinated in that meeting resulted in them agreeing to make 'the best motor car in the world'. The result of that meeting was the founding of Rolls-Royce, the world's premier automotive luxury marque.

Now nearly 120 years after that fateful meeting that redefined automotive luxury, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and its Manchester dealership have paid tribute to the city with a bespoke creation based on the Ghost.
Dubbed the Rolls-Royce Manchester Ghost, this one-off creation sports quite a few quirky features that tell the story of the city and its achievements while also referencing that meeting at the Midland Hotel.

The bespoke Manchester Ghost took nearly two years to go from an idea to what we see today and was commissioned for the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Manchester dealership.
The Manchester Ghost by Rolls-Royce features a rather traditional silver paint scheme. However, the Manchester Ghost features a few exterior design highlights including the coachline, wheel pin-striping and brake callipers are all finished in vibrant turquoise.
Another bespoke exterior highlight also finished in the vibrant hue is the motif of the Manchester Bee, a symbol of the city for over 150 years, which can be seen on the C-Pillar of this 1 of 1 motor car.

The Manchester Bee can also be seen in inserts for the front and rear seats of the one-off tribute to the city. The bespoke creation also features various landmarks of the city embroidered in a tone-on-tone thread to the rear seat centre.
The illuminated fascia of the dashboard sports 10,000 laser-etched dots which depict the skyline of Manchester. The largest of these dots depicts the Midland Hotel in Central Manchester where the firm's founders first met.

The fascia also features quite a bit of text which includes the words 'This is the Place'. This is a reference to a poem of the same name by English poet Tony Walsh which is a sentimental tribute to the city of Manchester.
The University of Manchester is also the place where Graphene, a lightweight, strong and flexible allotrope of carbon was first isolated by two professors in 2004. This discovery enhanced the reputation of the city as a hub for revolutionary inventions.

The Manchester Ghost pays tribute to this achievement with the fabled starry Rolls-Royce headliner depicting a pattern inspired by a Graphene lattice.
Another revolutionary invention is celebrated in the illuminated treadplates of the Rolls-Royce Manchester Ghost. The treadplates spell out MCR (the abbreviated name for Manchester) in Binary.

This is a tribute to the world's first stored programmed electronic digital computer known as The Manchester Baby, which ran its first program in 1948 at the University of Manchester.
The work on the Manchester Baby eventually lead to the Ferranti Mark 1, the world's first commercially available general-purpose computer.

Thoughts About The Manchester Ghost
The Rolls-Royce Manchester Ghost pays tribute to the city of Manchester, the city where the luxury automaker's founders met for the first time. While there has been no price assigned to this bespoke creation, it would make a lovely addition to the garage of any Mancunian.
