No One Is Safe On Our Roads - Rolls-Royce Ghost Left Stranded In Kolkata After Cloudburst Left City Flooded
Kolkata's recent cloudburst incident left several areas in the West Bengal capital waterlogged, and among the vehicles caught in the flooding was a Rolls-Royce Ghost, which currently retails for around Rs 8.95 crore. The Rolls-Royce Ghost was spotted stranded in Ballygunge, South Kolkata, in water that had risen to its floor pan.
The incident took place on September 23 when the city received heavy rainfall after a cloudburst, overwhelming the city's drainage systems and leaving multiple roads submerged. Pictures of the stranded car quickly spread online after being shared by Supercars of Kolkata on Instagram.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost in question was a Series II finished in blue with a contrasting silver section. The images shared thankfully show that no one was inside the car or attempting to move the sedan as floodwater surrounded the vehicle on both sides.
We believe the car may have suffered an engine shutdown after water entered the powerplant. Hydrolock is a common risk when you attempt to drive through flooded roads, and in most cases, this results in significant repair costs for mechanical and electronic components.

The Ghost Series II is powered by a 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 engine producing 570bhp and 780Nm of torque, paired with an automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Despite the performance and engineering, it remains vulnerable when exposed to conditions for which it was never designed.
Luxury cars like Rolls-Royce feature advanced electronics and low-mounted components that can easily be damaged by floodwater. In many instances, even a brief exposure can result in electrical malfunctions or permanent engine damage, repairs for which can run into several lakhs.

Road users and enthusiasts online posted about the poor condition of Kolkata's drainage systems, pointing out how repeated monsoon showers continue to cause traffic chaos. Comments noted that luxury cars, hatchbacks, and motorcycles all face the same difficulties when roads are not up to the standard to handle heavy rainfall.
For those of you driving or riding through the rain, we advise avoiding waterlogged streets whenever possible. Be it an entry-level car or high-end models like the Ghost seen in Kolkata, once water levels reach the bumper or higher, the risks of hydrolock and short circuits increase dramatically. If anything, the incident serves as another reminder of how Indian roads remain challenging for all vehicles, no matter how much they cost.
