Associations with speed record breaking attempts is not new for Rolls Royce, which has been a part of several speed records in the past. In fact, The existing land speed record holder Wing Commander Andy Green piloted the Thrust SSC in 1997, setting the mark of 1,227.986 km/h. Thrust SSC was powered by two Rolls Royce Spey 202 turbofan engines. Rolls Royce was not officially involved though.
