Road Accident Numbers Reaches New Record In India – More Than 1.68 Lakh People Died In 2022
India always had a very high number of road accident and related fatalities. However, the year 2022 just seems to have reached a new high with more than 1.68 lakh fatalities from road accidents.
This is a massive jump of around 9 per cent compared to the previous year (2021). Looking into the numbers, more than 460 people die every day in road accidents as per the above statistics. This is a very alarming number, which has to be carefully studied and analysed.

That being said, there is one more statistic that is even more worrisome - People injured in road accidents. Taking the numbers for the year 2022, more than 4.43 lakh people were injured in road accidents.
In comparison, just 3.84 lakh people were injured in road accidents from the previous year (2021). This is an increase of more than 59,000 injured people. All of these above statistics bring great shame to the country.

While some people may blame high speed for a majority of these accidents, we think there is something more than high speed for the escalating number of road accidents in India.
Road Etiquette
One of the primary causes of road accidents in India, big or small can be connected to Road Etiquette. Many people fail to even understand basic road etiquette leading to accidents, traffic jams and roadblocks.

Disregard For Rules
Road users often neglect rules and regulations. Sometimes these rules are not followed by government authorities themselves. This causes confusion among road users and increases the chances of road accidents.
Alcohol Usage
Drunk driving is another major cause of road accidents in India. Driving under the influence is a regular crime in India, and though police have been taking more stringent action against such road users, it is still not enough to stop drunk driving.
Poor Road Condition
Road condition is also a major cause of road accidents in India. Potholes, poorly marked roads, and poor road construction are also major contributors to fatal road accidents in India. We expect the government to focus more on improving infrastructure to reduce the number of accidents in a short time.
Thoughts About Road Accidents In India
Road accidents in India have been increasing for quite some time. Though many people blame high speeds for the increase in road accidents, we believe there are other reasons for the sudden spike in road accidents in India.
