13-Year-Old Racing Prodigy Shreyas Hareesh Dies In Racing Accident
The Indian motorcycle racing community has been left with great pain as the promising young racer, Shreyas Hareesh, met with a tragic accident at the Madras International Circuit during the Round 3 of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC), on Saturday.
Shreyas Hareesh is just 13 years old, yet he carved his name in the Indian motorcycle racing scene. He is widely considered by many as a promising young racer who has the potential to represent the country in many top-tier international racing formats.
Hareesh has also won the Indian leg of the MiniGP championship and represented India at the world finals - Which is considered an important platform for young riders to step into MotoGP or other international motorcycle racing forms. Later this year, Hareesh was also said to compete in the Malaysia Superbike Championship.
Like many racing legends, Hareesh's racing journey started with him competing in several local racing events. However, his major step can be considered when he made his INMRC debut in 2021 while he was just 11 years old.
In fact, the age limit of 13 years was reduced to 11 years just so that Hareesh could participate in the competition. This made Hareesh the youngest race winner in the championship - Shattering all age-related barriers.
Hareesh started from pole position in the TVS Rookie class of the INMRC. However, tragedy struck while exiting turn 1. The young racer succumbed to a fatal head injury despite receiving immediate medical attention.
After this tragic incident, the Motorsport Club of Chennai (MMSC) made the decision to cancel the remainder of the racing events that had been scheduled to take place for the weekend.
