PM Narendra Modi Suggests Less Petrol, Diesel & LPG Use For Fuel Conservation
Narendra Modi has urged citizens to reduce usage of petrol, diesel and cooking gas in order to help India conserve foreign exchange amid the ongoing global energy crisis. Speaking at a public event in Hyderabad, Telangana, the Prime Minister said that imported petroleum products should be used only when necessary, as this would reduce the economic impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
PM Narendra Modi Calls For Fuel Conservation
India is one of the world's largest importers of crude oil, with a significant portion of its energy requirements sourced from the Middle East. The situation has become more challenging due to disruptions linked to the prolonged crisis around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil and natural gas. Rising crude prices and supply constraints are putting pressure on India's trade balance and foreign exchange reserves.

During his address, Modi encouraged citizens to adopt fuel-saving habits similar to those seen during the COVID-19 pandemic. He suggested greater use of public transport such as buses and metro rail systems, carpooling, and a return to work-from-home arrangements and online meetings wherever possible. These steps, he said, would help reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and strengthen the country's economic resilience.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India's ongoing push toward alternative energy solutions, including electric vehicles, solar power, ethanol blending and expanded CNG infrastructure. According to Modi, these initiatives are aimed at reducing the country's dependence on imported fossil fuels and improving long-term energy security.

India has been actively promoting electric mobility by expanding charging infrastructure and offering incentives to encourage EV adoption. Domestic manufacturers such as Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ola Electric and Ather Energy continue to play a major role in this transition, supporting the broader "Make in India" initiative.
Modi's appeal underscores the importance of responsible energy consumption during a period of global uncertainty. By using fuel more efficiently, embracing public transport and accelerating the shift toward cleaner technologies, citizens can help reduce India's import dependence and contribute to greater economic stability.
