In a significant development, PM Modi is set to address the nation tonight at 8 pm. This marks his first public address following the recent cessation of hostilities initiated by Pakistan. The tension escalated after Operation Sindoor, a decisive military response by India targeting terrorist bases across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), in retaliation for a deadly terror attack.

Following the airstrikes carried out by the Indian Army in Pakistan and PoK, the Indian Press Information Bureau took steps to counter misinformation spread by Pakistani media. These false claims involved retaliatory strikes on Indian territory, including the Srinagar Airbase, and were promptly addressed.
Before this escalation, the Indian Air Force boasted a fleet of 36 Rafale jets, complementing the Navy's reliance on Russian-made MiG-29 aircraft. In a significant expansion, India finalized a deal with France's Dassault Aviation to procure an additional 26 Rafale jets for the Navy, amounting to ₹630 billion ($7.4 billion). The agreement, set to be fulfilled by 2030, promises job creation and revenue for domestic enterprises.
The Rafale jet, a French twin-engine multirole fighter, is celebrated for its speed, agility, and comprehensive combat capabilities. Capable of achieving a top speed of Mach 1.8 and operating at a ceiling of 50,000 feet, the Rafale stands as a formidable asset in aerial warfare. Its armament options, ranging from air-to-air missiles to precision bombs, alongside advanced avionics, enhance India's strategic edge.
Moreover, the India-specific Rafale jets feature upgraded radar, electronic warfare systems, and nuclear weapons delivery capability, making them a critical component of India's defense strategy. This acquisition not only bolsters India's position in regional conflicts but also aligns with the nation's aim of fostering a self-reliant defense ecosystem.
India-Pakistan War
The backdrop of this confrontation traces back to the tragic events of April 22, when a terror strike in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, claimed the lives of 26 individuals. Among the victims were 24 Indian tourists, a Nepalese tourist, and a local pony handler, all of whom were mercilessly shot in what appeared to be a religiously profiled attack. The pony handler's bravery stood out as he lost his life attempting to protect a tourist.
Following the outrage sparked by the attack, the Indian government took a firm stance by implementing several diplomatic measures. These included suspending the Indus Water Treaty, revoking visas for Pakistani nationals, and closing the Attari border, signaling a robust response to the provocation.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, saw the Indian forces conduct precise strikes on nine terrorist camps situated in Pakistan and PoK. The operation successfully dismantled the headquarters of two notorious terrorist organizations, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e Mohammed, eliminating approximately 100 terrorists. Among the deceased were individuals implicated in the 2019 Pulwama attack and the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC 814.
Among the high-profile terrorists neutralized were Mudassar Khadian Khas and Khalid alias Abu Akasha from Lashkar-e-Taiba, along with Mohammed Yusuf Azhar, Hafiz Mohammed Jaleel, and Mohammad Hassan Khan from Jaish-e Mohammad. Notably, Mohammed Yusuf Azhar, related to Jaish founder Masood Azhar, was a key figure in the IC-814 hijack incident that led to Masood Azhar's release from an Indian prison.
