PM Modi Inaugurates Mizoram Rajdhani Express: Everything You Need To Know - Timings, Fares & More

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (September 13) inaugurated Mizoram's first railway line, marking a historic step in connecting the northeastern state to India's national network. The event also saw the launch of the state's first Rajdhani Express, linking Sairang near Aizawl with Anand Vihar in Delhi.

The Bairabi-Sairang rail section spans 51.38 kilometres and was built through steep hills and dense forest. Government figures put project expenditure at roughly ₹8,213.72 crore. Construction included extensive tunnelling, numerous major and minor bridges, and complex earthworks across fragile terrain.

Engineers constructed 48 tunnels with a combined length of about 12,853 metres, alongside 55 major bridges and 87 minor bridges. Bridge Number 196 is a standout, rising roughly 114 metres above the valley. Several road overbridges and underpasses were also completed.

Sairang, located about 20 kilometres from Aizawl, serves as the line's terminus and rail gateway for Mizoram's capital region. The link capitalises on prior regional projects to finally connect Mizoram with India's long-distance rail network.
