Raids by the special task force of the UP police have caught petrol pump owners using a chip like device to steal petrol.
Raids by the Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh police in the state's capital of Lucknow have resulted in the arrest of 8 people including the man responsible for the creation of the cheat device.

The raids in Lucknow took place after an informant told the police about an electrician named Ravinder, who had developed that chip which helped the petrol pumps to sell less amount of petrol for the same amount of money.

The electrician is said to have sold his cheat device (which cost Rs 3,000) which was operated using remotes to 100 petrol pump owners across the state. The STF raided eight petrol pumps in the city of Lucknow and all eight of them were found using the chip to skim fuel from customers.

The chip would skim off a few millilitres of fuel every time customers would top up their vehicles. How much - 40 millilitres per litre which don't really alert customers to the skimming job which earned the cheating pump operators anything from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 every day.

While this chip based cheating scheme seems to a UP phenomenon as of now, but customers should always remember to be vigilant while at a fuel station as the chips aren't the only cheat used by unscrupulous petrol pump operators.
