OSVehicle Tabby - World’s First Open Source Road Legal Vehicle
Imagine the scenario where you decide to own a new car and instead of buying one you build your own. All you would need to do is purchase a few parts and build a car (a road legal one at that) at home within an hour.
Sounds fantastic and interesting? This could actually become true if a new Italy based startup is successful. The company, named OSVehicle, is working on one exact such concept to bring home made vehicles to everyone.
And the name of the company stands for Open Source Vehicles, which says everything about what they are planning to achieve.

‘Tabby' is the name of their first product that is being developed. Tabby has already been demonstrated in various fairs and shows. With all the parts at hand and a few helping hands, the Tabby can be assembled in under an hour. The record is 42 minutes.

Tabby, however, is just a chassis. The actual road legal car built on this chassis is called Urban Tabby. With a body mounted on the chassis, this home made car is on its way to becoming road legal in Europe, Asia and the US.

The Tabby can be ordered constructed into either a 2 seater or a 4 seater. The engine options being offered are, a petrol engine, an electric unit and there's even a more powerful hybrid one.

The final, legally approved version of the Urban Tabby, with a claimed top speed of 90 km/h, could cost anywhere between $5,350 - $8,000 and could become a reality this year.
