Luxury Vehicles Seized: Crackdown On Drunk Driving By Odisha Police
The Odisha Police Department has recently been cracking down on DUI (Driving Under the Influence) crimes. The Police are enforcing stricter measures to avoid having individuals escape the consequences of their crimes.
A Video has been shared on the internet recently of a group of high-end luxury cars ranging from BMWs, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, and Audi and more, that have been sized by the Odisha Police Department.
The video showcases seized high-end vehicles like an Audi A4, a Range Rover Velar, a Mercedes Benz EQC, and a Porsche Cayenne, among others vehicle. The Odisha police department has also confiscated a Tata Nexon, Toyota Fortuner, Renault Kiser, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, and a Toyota Innova Crysta.
The Police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy stance on drinking and driving. The vehicle was seized and towed to the Traffic Police Station-II located at Patrapada in Bhubaneswar by the police after the drivers of the vehicle were found under the influence.
If one vehicle is seized, first-time offenders will have to go to court to retrieve their vehicles, and for repeat offenders, a second offense results in the cancellation of their license; and a third offense leads to a vehicle registration cancellation and permanent license revocation.
Odisha is not the only state with a high number of DUI cases. Delhi Police recorded 16,173 individuals who were booked for driving under the influence in 2023, 2,225 cases in 2022, 2,831 in 2021, and 3,986 cases in 2020. 90% of fatalities in road accidents were caused by men.
