Nitin Gadkari Reveals Upcoming Dwarka Expressway - First Look

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recently posted a video on Twitter showcasing an aerial view of the soon-to-be-completed Dwarka Expressway. In the video, the minister mentions that this advanced expressway is expected to become accessible to the public within the next three to four months.

The upcoming expressway that links the capital city to Gurugram in Haryana will be India's inaugural elevated expressway. Its purpose is to alleviate congestion on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, which forms a segment of the Delhi-Jaipur-Ahmedabad-Mumbai route of the Golden Quadrilateral highway network.

Dwarka Expressway

Constructed with an investment of Rs 9,000 crore, the expressway is projected to utilise approximately 200,000 metric tonnes of steel, a quantity 30 times larger than the steel employed in constructing the renowned Eiffel Tower. The Dwarka Expressway will feature a collective of 16 lanes.

The expressway will also include arrangements for a three-lane service road on both sides to facilitate convenient entry and exit. There will be four interchanges integrated into the design, encompassing features like tunnels, underpasses, and elevated flyovers to fulfil this purpose.

The Dwarka Expressway will include the most extensive and broadest urban-road tunnel, spanning 3.6km in length and featuring 8-lanes. Moreover, the expressway's construction will require approximately 20 lakh cubic-metres of concrete, a quantity six-times greater than what was used to construct the Burj Khalifa, the tallest-building in the world.

Dwarka Expressway

The Dwarka Expressway will be equipped with advanced traffic management systems, such as the Advanced Traffic Management System, Toll Management System, and CCTV cameras, among other technologies.
The 29km expressway begins at Shiv-Murti on NH-8, also known as the Delhi-

Gurugram Expressway, and concludes near Kherki-Daula Toll-Plaza. It passes through locations like Dwarka Sector 21, the Gurugram border, and Basai. Approximately 19kms of the expressway is located in Haryana, while the remaining 10km stretch is situated in Delhi.

Gadkari previously mentioned that the expressway will provide an alternative route for people from Dwarka to reach the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Additionally, it will contribute to a 50 per cent reduction in traffic on National Highway 8.

Thoughts On The Under Construction Dwarka Expressway

The construction of the Dwarka Expressway seems to be a remarkable endeavour that holds great potential to alleviate traffic-congestion and enhance connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram. The implementation of advanced-infrastructure-features, such as the longest-urban-road-tunnel and high-tech traffic management systems, reflects a forward-thinking approach towards modern transportation challenges.
