New Toyota Plant To Bring 2,000 Jobs & Boost Local Economy
Toyota is set to significantly increase its production capacity in India, with plans to establish a third manufacturing plant in Karnataka. The Japanese automaker recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Karnataka government to set up a plant in Bidadi, near Bangalore. This move will see Toyota's annual production capacity rise by 1 lakh units.

A Significant Investment For Toyota
This new plant symbolizes a substantial financial commitment from Toyota, with an estimated investment of around Rs 3,300 crores. Furthermore, this initiative is set to create approximately 2,000 new jobs, further boosting the local economy. The plant will commence operations in 2026 and will be the production base for an all-new three-row SUV.
Boosting Production Capacity with the New Plant
Currently, Toyota's two plants in Bidadi have a combined output of about 4 lakh units per annum. With the addition of the new plant, Toyota's production capacity will increase by 30 per cent. The upcoming plant will primarily produce the forthcoming three-row SUV, codenamed the 340D. This new model is a longer version of the Corolla Cross sold overseas and is expected to launch in 2026.

Upcoming Models For The Indian Market
Toyota's new three-row SUV will be underpinned by the TNGA-C platform, which is also used by the Innova Hycross. Stylistically, the three-row SUV will differentiate from the Corolla Cross with a new nose and soft parts, including a plastic bumper, grille, and headlights. The rear end will also be completely new, thanks to the additional length.
Toyota also showcased the new IMV 0 ladder frame platform, a low-cost version of the IMV platform that underpins the Innova Crysta and Fortuner, at the Japan Mobility Show. This platform will spawn more affordable alternatives of vehicles like the Hilux pickup truck and Fortuner SUV and is India-bound.

Toyota's announcement of a new manufacturing plant in Karnataka signifies its commitment to the Indian market. This move not only bolsters Toyota's production capacity but also showcases its intent to introduce new and innovative models in the country. With the new plant becoming operational in 2026, Indian buyers can look forward to more offerings from Toyota's stable.
