Metro Line 3 Construction Update: Mumbai Roads Being Restored

As construction on the underground Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro line 3 nears its end, MMRCL has begun restoring roads and removing barricades. This progress brings relief to residents who have endured over five years of inconvenience. The road clearances aim to resolve traffic issues and boost sales for shop owners. So far, over 60% of the roads have been cleared.

Of the total 28,885 metres of road barricaded on the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 line, MMRCL has restored 18,123 metres." Trees will be planted in open spaces atop Metro 3 stations once barricades are removed. Planting has already begun at Churchgate station.

The project, costing around Rs 37,000 Cr, is expected to significantly enhance Mumbai's connectivity. Phase 1 of the metro, between Aarey and BKC, is anticipated to be operational by the end of July or mid-August. Phases II and III, from BKC to Cuffe Parade, should be operational by October.

Phase one consists of eight stations from SEEPZ to BKC. Phase two will include six stations from Dharavi to Worli, and phase three will cover 11 stations between Worli and Cuffe Parade. Current oscillation trials by MMRCL are overseen by the Research, Design, and Standards Organization (RDSO) of the Indian Railways.

Once the removal of barricades is complete, the MMRCL has plans to plant trees in the newly freed spaces. This initiative has already started with tree planting at the Churchgate station. The project's completion will not only improve transportation but also add greenery to the cityscape.
