MS Dhoni Adds Mercedes G63 To His Car Collection - Thala Adds AMG Power
Former Indian cricket team captain M.S. Dhoni has added the Mercedes-AMG G63 to his bonkers garage. The World Cup winning captain was recently seen driving around in his new acquisition.
The Mercedes-AMG G63 is the most powerful version of the G-Class SUV currently on sale in India and sports a price tag of Rs 3.3 Crore (ex-showroom).
Dhoni, who still captains the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and is affectionately known as Thala by his yellow-wearing supporters is a certified car nut and his new G63 sees him continue his love for exotic motors.
Dhoni's newest SUV is powered by AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine made by the power-crazed in-house turbo nutters at Affalterbach. The forced-induction engine pushes out 577bhp at 6,000rpm and a ground churning 850Nm of peak torque between 2,500-3,500rpm.
The engine is connected to a nine-speed automatic torque converter gearbox that sends power to all four wheels. The four-wheel-drive system has a rear-biased 40:60 torque split.
The Mercedes-AMG G63 sprints from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds and continues onward to an electronically limited top speed of 220km/h. Those who remove this electronic speed nanny by opting for the AMG Driver's Package can enjoy a higher top speed of 240km/h.
Compared to the regular G-Class models, the G63 features a distinct style of its own with revised front and rear bumpers, grille and extremely flared-out wheelarches that play host to alloys that can be up to 22 inches in size. The AMG model also features a different suspension and braking setup compared to the regular 'G'.
To celebrate his new performance SUV, M.S. Dhoni has fitted his new Mercedes-AMG G63 with VIP plates. The plate ends in 0007, a nod to the jersey number he wore in the Indian team and still wears for the Chennai Super Kings.
The new Mercedes-AMG G63 isn't the only SUV in Dhoni's collection which features the likes of a fully restored Nissan Jonga, a Hummer H2 and quite a few classic American muscle cars.
And despite its turbocharged V8 engine, the new G63 isn't even the most powerful SUV in Dhoni's fleet. That honour belongs to the Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk.
Dhoni's bright red Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk draws power from the famed supercharged 6.2-litre V8 Hellcat engine that pushes out 707bhp and 875Nm of peak torque, making it the most powerful SUV currently on sale in India.
