Marc Marquez and Joan Mir: Achieving New Heights in Motegi Sprint Race
During an intense Sprint Race in Motegi, Marc Marquez and Joan Mir secured the spots of seventh and 13th respectively, in preparation for Sunday's main event. The weather in Japan remained warm, despite predictions of rain and the occasional appearance of dark clouds. Free Practice 2 saw both Repsol Honda Team racers finetuning their machines ahead of the day's most thrilling moments.
Marc Marquez hit his initial goal as he posted a 1'43.997, making him the fastest rider to pass through Q1. He then teamed up with his crew for a two-run strategy in Q2, taking seventh place on the grid after shaving another tenth off his time. Starting at the front of the third row, Marquez outpaced Bezzecchi in the opening corners of the 12-lap Sprint.

Throughout the race, rider #93 was constantly defending his position from both Bezzecchi and Zarco, leading to a particularly heated battle with the young Italian midway through the race. Despite the increased pressure, Marquez managed to cross the line in seventh place, skillfully fending off his competitors while avoiding unnecessary risks.
Joan Mir, on the other hand, started the day with high ambitions. After trying out a variety of final tweaks and settings, he decided on a strategy for the remainder of the weekend. He finished the Q1 in fifth place, a mere 0.101s away from a recall spot, and began both races in 15th place. As the Sprint commenced, Mir gained several places, ultimately finishing 13th. However, he struggled to replicate the pace and assurance he had earlier in the day.

The crowning event of the weekend, The Japanese Grand Prix, will take place on Sunday in Motegi. The race will consist of 24 laps and commences at 15:00 local time.
Marc Marquez (ranked seventh) shared his thoughts saying, “I think the highlight of our day was jumping from Q1 to Q2 and starting on the third row was a good objective. Seventh position is a solid day, not the best but I tried hard to follow the leading group because that’s my character. The tyres started to drop towards the end, and I had to go more at my normal pace after risking a lot at the start. It looks like the top ten will be the objective for tomorrow again. There are a few things to check and of course we keep trying and working for more.”
Joan Mir (ranked 13th) expressed his disappointment saying, “We were hoping for more today because during Qualifying I felt pretty good, there was a chance to go to Q2 but it didn’t really line up. I am quite disappointed with how the race went overall, it the Sprint it just didn’t feel the same and we weren’t able to match the lap times. Certainly, we need to work to understand this so we can deliver on our potential and our expectations. Tonight we will look for answers so that tomorrow we can have the race we know we have the potential for.”
