MotoGP Bharat: Repsol Honda Getting Back On Track

The inaugural Indian Grand Prix will be remembered as a pinnacle in the racing calendar, with Joan Mir attaining his season's highest performance. Furthermore, Marc Marquez proved the proficiency of the Honda RC213V as he made an early bid for the podium and demonstrated a remarkable rebound.

Attention was riveted on Joan Mir, marking his start from the fourth spot, due to Marini's absence because of an injury, as the race commenced. Mir, riding #36, managed to retain his rank next to Marquez of Repsol Honda Team as they pursued their competitors.

Mir exuded confidence, securing a steady fifth place with Quartararo slightly leading. Once more, Brad Binder found himself tracking Mir as he followed a Repsol Honda Team RC213V, closing in in the final laps, which resulted in the dual World Champion surrendering his fourth place to Brad Binder.

Gleaning courage from the final laps, Mir finished the race trailing Binder by a little over half a second, earning him the fifth place. This marks Mir's finest accomplishment as a Honda rider, vindicating his relentless efforts to bolster his performance and better his team's prospects. Mir now sets his sights on the Honda’s home round in Motegi, looking forward to maintaining this momentum and showcasing his prowess and that of his bike.

After bouncing back to the Sprint's podium, Marquez was all set to fire, taking an immediate lead and fastening himself to the front trio. Sensing his chance when Martin and Bagnaia exchanged positions, Marquez elevated his game to keep pace. Regrettably, Marquez stumbled on the fifth lap's first turn, but agile as ever, he was back on the bike within eight seconds, rejoining at the 16th position.

From there, Marquez forged through the contenders, making his way back into the top ten by the 14th lap. Continuing along this trajectory, the eight-time world champion secured ninth, given his stumble, it was a credible outcome. The full Repsol Honda Team now readies itself for Honda’s home race at the Motegi circuit in Japan.

Marc Marquez, after finishing in 9th place, said, “If you just looked at the final result and see ninth you wouldn’t know the whole story of our race – but to achieve what could be considered our 'normal’ result after a crash is a positive. It was a really small crash but I was pushing very hard to stay in the slip stream of the bikes ahead, I went a bit wide and just fell. I came into this race with the motivation of the Sprint podium, so when I saw Pecco and Martin make a mistake I decided I needed to push. This led to the mistake. The most important thing was finishing the race, overall our rhythm was very close to Quartararo so I think we can be overall happy with what we have done this weekend.”

Joan Mir, who secured a repsectable 5th, said, “A great race today. I am super happy with our performance over the weekend and of course to finish in fifth position is a big boost for us. The team and I did a great job to understand the bike more, how you need to make the lap time and be fast this weekend. On the other hand, we had a small thing in the end of the race that meant I lost ground to Fabio and we dropped back. Finally in the end we were able to push and try to catch Binder after I almost crashed. It was a big save! But yeah, a really nice race overall and I have enjoyed my time in India. Let’s keep it up in Japan”.
