Marquez Battles to the Top at MotoGP San Marino: Secures a Top Ten Finish

Marc Marquez battles into the top ten in a high-temperature, intense race at the Grand Premio Red Bull di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini. Despite a fall, Joan Mir remains optimistic about their team's performance.

In an impressive race that was deemed 'perfect' by the rider himself, Marc Marquez battled fiercely to secure the seventh position and make a comeback into the leading ten, right before a crucial Monday Test. Despite a premature end to his race following a fall, Joan Mir expresses optimism about their performance.

The Repsol Honda Team experienced continued progress over the weekend at the Grand Premio Red Bull di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, building up to the 27-lap Grand Prix on Sunday. As the track's temperature soared past 40°C, the MotoGP participants turned their focus on the task at hand.

Marc Marquez San Marino GP

Marc Marquez, starting at ninth on the grid, quickly broke into the top ten. By the ninth lap, the racer had advanced to the sixth position, where he kept pace for most of the race, trailing behind Maverick Viñales. However, the final laps saw him being contested by Miguel Oliveira, Raul Fernandez, and Luca Marini. Marquez held his ground against the last two in a nail-biting finale.

This race marks a pivotal step in Marquez and Honda's journey towards improving their results. Marquez logged points in three straight races and made his first entry into the top ten this year. But the Repsol Honda Team is far from complacent and is committed to regaining control at the front of the MotoGP World Championship. The last in-season MotoGP test, which is scheduled to be held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Monday, can prove to be crucial in this pursuit.

Joan Mir San Marino GP

Joan Mir, who unfortunately couldn't complete the Grand Prix, is also prioritizing Monday's test. Earlier in the race, Mir was forced to dodge a clash between Pirro and Miller and lost significant ground. Later, he slipped at Turn 4, leading to an early exit. Regardless, Mir seemed satisfied with the team's progress over the weekend and the improvements on the Honda RC213V machine.

Both riders from the Repsol Honda Team will return for the MotoGP test on Monday for a preliminary session with upcoming technologies put forward by Honda HRC engineers.Marc Marquez (Seventh) stated that this race, along with Le Mans, was the best race of the year for him. He added that they achieved impressive rhythm until the soft rear option dwindled a bit - a common occurrence. He was excited about the tussles with Aprilia riders and Marini, and was looking forward to future tests and work with engineers.

Joan Mir (DNF), despite a less than perfect race start, was pleased with the improvements observed. He referenced the Pirro and Miller crash, which resulted in lost time and positions, and the subsequent crash. Nevertheless, he highlighted the positive aspects and mentioned a shift in focus onto the 2024 mindset, as they begin building for the future.
