Homologation Countdown Begins: FIM Inspects Buddh International Circuit For MotoGP Bharat
Preparations are well underway for the first-ever MotoGP race in India, MotoGP Bharat, as the country gears up to host this prestigious event. The Buddh International Circuit, which has previously hosted three F1 races, is now being modified to meet the requirements of MotoGP.
While the track itself was deemed suitable for MotoGP due to its previous experience hosting international-level F1 races, some adjustments were necessary. Certain sections of the fences were moved back on certain corners and additional gravel was added.

Resurfacing work was also carried out on specific areas of the track, particularly the one-kilometer-long back straight. This was done to ensure a smoother ride for riders who face demanding suspension settings in MotoGP.
Safety is a top priority in all motorsports, and MotoGP is no exception. To guarantee the safety of riders and spectators alike, Dorna Sports and FIM officials have mandated that the latest version of barriers be installed at the Buddh International Circuit.
These new barriers are considered safer than those currently in place at BIC, which were installed over a decade ago during its initial construction. Upgrading to these newer barriers is essential for homologation purposes.
Homologation refers to the certification process that ensures tracks and cars meet specific quality parameters and safety standards set by organizations such as FIM or Federation Internationale de l'Automobile. In order for BIC to receive homologation from FIM, it must meet their criteria. To assess compliance with these criteria, representatives from FIM have already visited BIC multiple times.
In addition to preparing the track itself, logistical arrangements have been made to transport teams and equipment for all three competitions - MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 - participating in this thrilling weekend event. Teams have submitted their lists of requirements ahead of time while Dorna Sports handles transportation logistics.
To transport all necessary equipment including motorcycles from Italy to India efficiently, four large 747 Jumbo freighter aircraft have been commissioned. These planes will carry approximately 800 crates and a total of 400 tonnes of freight, including the exclusive and expensive MotoGP motorcycles used by teams in all three competitions.
Shipments have already begun arriving at the circuit to ensure everything is in place for the event. Earlier this month, around 20 containers were dispatched via sea route, carrying various items such as Special Foam barriers, air fences, broadcast equipment, tires, and fuel.
