Most Dangerous & Safest Countries To Drive A Car In The World
I am sure each of us have wondered at some point in our life as to which country is the safest or the most dangerous in the world when it comes to driving on the road. The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute now has clear answers.
The institute has published a research paper based on World Health Organization data which compares the rates of death in 193 countries by road crashes with other factors such as heart disease and cancer.
The results are quite interesting actually. Here are some samples.
The worldwide average for auto fatalities is 18 per 1,00,000 people. While Namibia is the least safest country with 45 deaths per 1 lakh people occurring from road accidents, the island nation of Maldives tops the list as the safest country to drive, where only 2 out of 1 lakh people die from road accidents.
Interestingly, when deaths from road crashes are compared as a percentage against all causes of deaths in a country United Arab Emirates figures at the top of list, where 15.9 percent of the population die from car accidents. The world average in this case is just 2.1 percent.

The most dangerous country to drive is Namibia, with 45 out of 1,00,000 deaths occurring from road accidents.

Namibia is followed closely by Thailand, with 44 deaths out of 1,00,000.

In third position is Iran, with 38 deaths out of 1 lakh.

The fifth most dangerous place to drive is Swaziland. 36 deaths/1,00,000.

China ranks 44th and above India, with 22 deaths.

India is ranked 76, close to the global average, with 17 death per 1,00,000.

The United States ranks 97 with 14 deaths.

The United Kingdom is ranked 180 with 5 deaths.
