Monsoon Car Care & Driving Tips
Driving in monsoon can be tricky and requires a calculated and delicate approach, especially during heavy downpours. Moreover, taking care of your car during the monsoon can be even more tedious task, especially if you do not have the right tools or accessories. As such, here are the best car care and driving tips to overcome this monsoon.
Increasing Traction
Tyres play a crucial role in keeping your car on the road and the condition of the tyres greatly affects the traction, especially on wet roads. Tyres with decent tread patterns ensure that the water is efficiently channelled away from the contact patch and we recommended changing the tyre if the tread depth falls below 2mm.
Also, the brakes must be given extra care in the monsoon season. Moreover, changing the worn-out brake pads and brake rotors will further improve the braking performance of the car.
Improve Visibility
Ahead of the monsoon season, we recommended replacing the wiper blades as the rubber in the wiper blade can get hard due to exposure to the sun and these hardened wiper blades can cause permanent damage to the windshield.
Also applying water repellant on the windshield will further improve visibility during rains as the applied liquid forms a hydrophobic shield that prevents the water from adhering to the surface of the windshield.
Prevent Leaks & Rust
It is better to check your car for leaks and rust ahead of the monsoon season as rusting is accelerated during monsoons due to higher humidity. Also, we recommend checking rubber beadings as any leaks can turn disastrous for the car. To ensure better protection, we recommend using a waterproof car body cover in the monsoon season as it will protect the car during rains.
Avoiding Accidents
During rains, it is better to avoid the outer lanes as outer lanes are more susceptible to damage and the probability of hitting a pothole is higher. Also, try avoid braking suddenly as it will only increase the chances of someone hitting your car from the rear. Moreover, we recommend using familiar roads as the condition of unknown roads might not be visible due to flood water.
It is worth mentioning that, driving fast over standing water can result in aquaplaning and result in an accident.
Car Hygiene & Emergency
Using rubber mats is the best way to keep your car clean during monsoon as rubber mats can be easily washed and dried. Also, rubber can keep the carpet lining from getting wet and thus prevent mould formation. Moreover, cleaning the AC before the monsoon is very important as it will remove mould and mildew buildup.
Since breakdowns and traffic jams are more common in monsoon season, we recommend keeping an emergency kit in the car. This kit must contain a few protein bars, snacks, water, some basic tools, a flashlight, and a compass.
