MightyFly's Cento EVTOL Aircraft Is Probably The Coolest Delivery Drone We've Seen

The Cento aircraft, developed by MightyFly, is designed to transform cargo operations in both commercial and military sectors. It features a hybrid-electric system that reduces emissions and costs. The aircraft is fully autonomous, handling not only flight but also loading and unloading of cargo through a patented system.

In 2023, MightyFly received the SBIR Phase II contract from the Department of the US Air Force's AFWERX program. This initiative supports innovative eVTOL technologies for military use. The program aims to showcase the potential benefits of such technologies.

Autonomous Flight Demonstration

MightyFly recently conducted a live flight demonstration for the US Air Force (USAF) under this contract. The demonstration was tailored to meet the Department of Defense's requirements for military cargo missions. It highlighted not just autonomous flight but also efficient cargo handling.

The USAF demonstration took place at New Jerusalem Airport. During this event, Cento autonomously transported two large boxes to a designated location. The process included securing packages, taking off, flying, landing, unloading cargo, and proceeding to another destination without human intervention.

Innovative Cargo System

The ALMS (Autonomous Load Mastering System) technology allows Cento to manage loading and unloading autonomously. This innovation ensures accuracy in every operation and eliminates the need for human involvement in these processes.

The ALMS system transforms labor-intensive tasks into quick, seamless operations. This is especially beneficial for same-day and expedited deliveries, making them faster and error-free.

Hybrid-Electric Propulsion

Cento uses hybrid-electric propulsion to recharge its batteries during flight. This feature enables efficient fast deliveries without needing ground-based recharging stops. More details about the propulsion system are currently not available.

Last year, MightyFly received FAA approval for a flight corridor dedicated to large autonomous cargo eVTOLs. This approval was crucial for advancing their flight testing capabilities and paved the way for this year's USAF demonstration.

Future Demonstrations

MightyFly plans another significant demonstration involving multiple delivery flights in Michigan. This will be under a contract with the Michigan Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, targeting partners and potential customers.

MightyFly's Cento aircraft represents a leap forward in autonomous cargo transportation. Its ability to operate independently in various environments showcases its potential impact on future logistics operations across different sectors.
