McLaren Parades Its Achievements On Its 50th Birthday

This month marks the 50th birthday of McLaren. Founded in 1963 by Bruce McLaren, the legendary name is associated with racing teams (most notably the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team) and a handful of high performance street machines.

Over the years the McLaren has won many races and its drivers have won several championships. In recent years the company has made a name for itself as an extremely capable manufacturer of technologically advanced supercars, which ooze with technology derived from F1.

Earlier this week, the company threw a birthday party of sorts for its employees working at the McLaren Technology Center, its headquarters, located in Surrey, England. Naturally, the celebration was unique. It was a parade rather. A parade of McLaren automobiles which have achieved greatness and mark an important point in the automaker's half a century long existence.

We may never get a front row view of parade such as this like the McLaren employees got, but we can nevertheless watch the video. For reference, here is the list of cars that appear. Surprisingly, McLaren F1 was not part of the parade.

  • M8D Can-Am
  • M23 F1 car (you will see this car in the movie Rush, once driven by James Hunt)
  • Ayrton Senna's MP4/4
  • MP4-23 (Lewis Hamilton won the 2008 Drivers' Championship in it) and
  • The 12C Spider and P1 supercars
