Maruti Suzuki To Challenge Court Order, Says Bad Fuel Caused Issues, Not E20

Maruti Suzuki has stated that contaminated fuel, and not E20 petrol, was responsible after a consumer court ordered the company to replace a Grand Vitara. The vehicle involved in the dispute was the Strong Hybrid variant of the SUV.

Maruti Suzuki Challenges Grand Vitara Court Verdict

Recently, a Grand Vitara owner approached the consumer court, claiming that his new vehicle had developed several issues and sought a replacement from the brand. The Raipur consumer court ruled against the OEM and ordered the company to replace the vehicle with a new one.

Maruti Suzuki will now challenge the verdict, claiming that there was evidence of contaminated fuel being used in the car and that E20 fuel was not the actual reason for the issue. The company says all its cars are compatible with E20 fuel and that this particular issue developed due to fuel contamination.

The vehicle involved in the dispute was the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid. The verdict has sparked discussions across the country, as this is the first time a court has issued a verdict related to E20 fuel. According to several reports, the Raipur resident purchased the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid Zeta Plus variant in 2024. Within just five months, the vehicle reportedly started developing issues and stalled repeatedly.

Despite multiple service visits, the vehicle continued to develop problems, and the owner approached the consumer court. The fuel tank was cleaned multiple times, but the issue persisted. In a laboratory report, the owner claimed that a white substance, believed to be ethanol, was found.

After the court hearing, the judge ordered Maruti Suzuki to replace the vehicle with a new one. Maruti Suzuki says the car is fully E20-compatible, as mentioned in the owner's manual. The company also claims there is evidence of fuel contamination and that several other factors were not reflected in the court's verdict. It has stated that it will challenge the order in a higher court and proceed in accordance with the law.
