India’s Major Ports To Provide Discount For Transporting Vehicles
All major ports will provide a discount of 80 percent for two years on vessel related charges and coastal related charges for transportation of vehicles through Ro-Ro ships. The Shipping ministry said this on Wednesday.
The Shipping ministry stated, "This discount is also extended to other similar ships such as Ro-Pax, PCC, PCTC, PTC etc. An order in this regard has been issued on September 20, 2016."
The Ministry added, "With the increase in the discount to 80 percent, it is expected that the Shipping Service Providers will be able to attract more automobile cargo through the coastal route and decongest the already congested roads and railways and also make the Ro-Ro ship service operations more sustainable."
Under the earlier scheme, the discount was 40 percent over that of foreign vessels for all coastal vessels including Ro-Ro.
