“Lord Alto” Strikes Again - Trolls Desi Offroad Heavyweights On Icy Road
When you think of off-road kings, the Mahindra Thar, Maruti Suzuki Jimny, and the iconic Gypsy probably come to mind as SUVs built to conquer unforgiving terrain. But imagine the shocked look on people's faces if the offroading hero of the day wasn't an SUV, but the tiny Maruti Suzuki Alto.
Lovingly referred to as "Lord Alto," by both fans and trolls alike, an Alto recently put these off-road titans in their place by climbing up an unforgiving icy incline with ease where the three heavyweights struggled using a bit of winter driving ingenuity.
This jaw-dropping scene was seen on a video that has been making the rounds on social media that was shared on Instagram user @himachal_explorer9, the clip perfectly encapsulates the challenges of driving on black ice, a unique menace winter adventurers know all too well.
The video kicks off with a black Mahindra Thar confidently attacking the icy uphill track. However, confidence quickly turns to struggle, as the Thar fights to gain traction on the slippery surface. Next up, is its rival, the five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny which makes its attempt but faces the same fate-spinning wheels and halted progress. Not even the legendary Suzuki Gypsy, famed for its ability on rugged terrain, manages to fare any better.

Then, comes the underdog! From the corner of the screen rolls in an unassuming Maruti Alto taxi, the quintessential Indian hatchback known more for zipping around urban streets than scaling treacherous icy slopes. Much to everyone's astonishment, it glides up the slope with ease. No spinning tyres, no struggle-it's almost casual in how effortlessly Lord Alto surmounts the challenge.
How did this FWD (front-wheel-drive) lightweight hatchback achieve the impossible? A closer look reveals a few key elements working in its favour. First, the Alto sports snow chains on its front tyres. This old-school winter hack is highly effective for boosting grip on slippery surfaces. Second, the combination of the Alto's low weight and a driver who meticulously avoided the slipperiest patches made all the difference. While the SUVs had a bootload of torque, the Alto proved that low weight, finesse, traction, and the right tools are just as valuable-if not more so-on black ice.
The video has garnered over 600,000 likes on Instagram (and counting), a testament to how satisfying it is to watch an underdog triumph and of course troll the big dogs. At the end of the day, the video shows that experience, knowing the conditions and the ability to think on your feet and find solutions are what every driver needs to succeed even when the odds seem stacked against them.
