Lockheed Martin L1011 Tristar Emerges As New Diving Attraction In The Red Sea
The Lockheed Martin L1011 Tristar plane, an abandoned passenger aircraft initially rumored to be the vanished MH370, has transformed into a prime diving destination in the Red Sea.
This revelation comes from recent footage showcasing the plane's interior, featuring seats and shattered windows, submerged since 2019. The footage, captured by underwater photographer Brett Hoelzer, offers a unique glimpse into the deserted aircraft, highlighting intact lockers and headrests amidst the wreckage.

Originally in service in the 1980s, this massive 400-seater jet was left at King Hussein International Airport in Jordan before the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority decided to sink it to promote dive tourism and coral growth. This initiative has proven successful over the past five years, creating a new underwater habitat for marine life.
An Underwater Adventure
Divers exploring the site can see the aircraft’s structure largely intact, including all three engines and the tail fin. Other preserved parts include the cockpit, toilets, and galleys.

According to Scuba Diving magazine in 2022, the dive offers varying depths, with the cockpit positioned at about 13 meters deep, facing the beach. The most profound points reach up to 28 meters near the last two exit doors, providing an extensive exploration area for divers.
The plane's location had sparked widespread speculation last year when a social media post falsely claimed it was the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370), suggesting it had been discovered underwater without any human remains. This rumor was quickly debunked when the image was identified as the Tristar wreck in Aqaba.

DriveSpark Thinks
The MH370 mystery continues to intrigue the public, with the plane disappearing in 2014 with 239 people on board during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Conspiracy theories and investigations have surrounded the case, focusing on the flight path and the actions of the pilot.
The sunken Lockheed Martin L1011 Tristar plane stands as a compelling dive site, merging the allure of underwater exploration with the mystery of abandoned structures. It serves not only as an attraction for adventurous divers but also contributes to the marine ecosystem in the Red Sea.
